Find a Match for Hope

by Yadira Molina, Guest Blogger

Special thanks to service-learning FIG Leadership students in UNIV238 01 for the posts in this special series on resources for those struggling with cancer and their loved ones.

Hey Everyone! My name is Yadira and I’m a freshman at Sonoma State University. Together with my Leadership class, I’m helping raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation as well as raising awareness for all types of cancer. If you or someone you know is having trouble with this heart-breaking sickness, I hope you can find this helpful!

When a family member is diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, it can be hard for the family to cope with the news. It can be harder for the family member who may feel like they’re going through the difficult process alone. Nonetheless, both will need advice and guidance during this difficult time, which is where the Cancer Hope Network comes in to help.

The Cancer Hope Network is a non-profit organization that provides FREE one-on-one support for patients suffering from cancer as well as their families. Brenda, a Patient Services Coordinator, gathers information on patients, “So that we may make the best fit possible for both the patients and the volunteers,” Volunteers who have recovered from cancer are trained then matched to cancer patients in hopes of making a difference in their fight against cancer. They strive for excellence, integrity, teamwork and respect in their work with patients and their families.

It’s hard to go through something as tough as cancer alone, which is why The Cancer Hope Network is a great resource for helping to stay positive during the treatment process. Being matched up is easy, simply call 1-800-552-4366, or check out the website to find out more information and request for a match online.
